Burton on Trent is a town in Staffordshire, England, close to the border with Derbyshire. It lies on the River Trent and has a population of 72,299 (2011 census).
The town originally grew up around Burton Abbey, founded in 1003. Monks constructed Burton Bridge to replace a ford across the river. Burton became a town in 1204 and has been since governed by a town council.
The River Trent runs through Burton and is famous for its fishing. The rowing club is based at Meadowside Leisure Centre, which was opened in 1986. Burton Bridge Club is also located in the town.
The National Brewery Centre is located in Burton and houses a collection of vintage brewing equipment.

Burton on Trent has two railway stations, Burton-on-Trent and Burton upon Trent. The town is served by East Midlands Trains with direct services to Leicester, Birmingham New Street, Derby, Sheffield and Nottingham.
Burton on Trent is a short drive from the M1 motorway, and there are regular bus and coach services to nearby towns and cities.
